ManorCraft was founded by Clayton McKinley in 2021, but the experience behind the company reaches back more than two decades.
Clayton has spent the majority of his working life in and around residential construction, developing a broad, hands-on understanding of what it takes to build homes properly. His experience extends well beyond any single trade. From foundations, structural framing and exterior envelope systems to roofing, windows and doors, siding, finish carpentry and project coordination, he has spent years learning how each stage of a residential project affects the next.
That experience has become especially valuable in the custom home and cottage market, where projects are rarely simple, details matter, and there is often no one-size-fits-all solution.
Custom construction requires more than following a set of drawings. It requires the ability to look ahead, identify potential problems before they become expensive ones, coordinate multiple trades, understand how materials and building systems interact, and make practical decisions in the field without losing sight of the architect's or homeowner's original vision.
That is where ManorCraft excels.
Clayton's career began with hands-on construction work in the 1990s, eventually leading him to operate crews, manage projects, work with homeowners and builders, and take on senior sales and management roles within the construction industry. Over the years, he has developed extensive experience with premium window and door installations, exterior cladding systems, structural and finish carpentry, weather-resistant building envelopes, roofing, ICF construction, foundations, framing and complete shell and dry-in projects.
That combination of field experience, technical knowledge and project management experience gives ManorCraft a perspective that is increasingly difficult to find.
We don't simply look at the portion of the project directly in front of us. We look at the entire building.
How will the framing affect the window installation? How will the exterior insulation transition into the foundation? Where does the water go when it reaches a window opening? How will the siding, flashing, roofing and trim interact five, ten or twenty years from now? Is there a better way to build a particular detail before it becomes buried behind finished materials?
These are the questions that come from years spent solving real problems on real construction sites.

Some of ManorCraft's most rewarding work is in the custom home and cottage sector throughout Peterborough, the Kawarthas, Northumberland and surrounding cottage country.
These projects often involve challenging sites, unique architectural details, premium materials and clients who expect a higher level of workmanship. Cottages in particular present their own challenges—from remote locations and difficult access to exposure from wind, water, snow and extreme seasonal temperature changes.
Building in these environments demands careful planning and an understanding of how a structure will perform long after construction is finished.
For Clayton, quality construction isn't simply about making something look good on the day it is completed. It is about understanding why it is being built a certain way and how that detail will perform for decades.
One of the greatest advantages of working with ManorCraft is having someone involved in your project who can see beyond the boundaries of a single trade.
Clayton regularly works with homeowners, designers, architects, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors to turn plans into practical construction solutions. His role is often as much about problem solving and coordination as it is about construction itself.
Clients benefit from someone who can review a project from a builder's perspective, help determine the most practical way to execute difficult details, identify opportunities to improve durability and efficiency, and ensure that the finished work reflects the quality expected from a custom home.
Whether ManorCraft is responsible for a specific portion of the project or providing broader construction management and site supervision, the philosophy remains the same:
Build it properly. Pay attention to the details. Communicate clearly. And never accept “good enough” when there is a better way to do it.

ManorCraft intentionally maintains a personal approach to every project.
When you work with ManorCraft, you aren't simply hiring a company and being handed off to someone you've never met. Clayton remains actively involved in the planning, coordination and execution of the work.
That direct involvement creates accountability.
It also means clients have someone they can speak with who understands both the technical side of construction and the reality of what is happening on the jobsite.
Construction can be complicated. Unexpected conditions arise, plans change, materials are delayed and decisions sometimes need to be made quickly. The difference between a stressful project and a successful one often comes down to the experience of the people managing those situations.
After decades around residential construction, Clayton understands that trust is earned through communication, workmanship and consistency.
That philosophy is at the heart of ManorCraft.
Our goal is not simply to complete another project.
It is to become a trusted construction partner for homeowners, builders and designers who value experience, craftsmanship and thoughtful execution.
From a custom cottage overlooking the lake to a new home, addition, major exterior renovation or complete building envelope, ManorCraft approaches every project with the same objective:
To build something we are proud to put our name on—and something our clients will be proud to call home.
